About the Author

Iris is a German mom of two girls — a toddler and a baby — living in California. She’s raising her family trilingually (German, English, and Spanish) together with her American husband.

By day, she’s a user experience designer with nearly 20 years of experience in creating meaningful products. By night (and naptime), she’s a maker of songs, illustrations, and tiny books that reflect the multilingual reality of her home.

Her debut board book, “Lache, liebe Sonne / Laugh, dear sun,” was inspired by a song her own mother composed for her daughter — and by the daily challenge of making bedtime stories work in a trilingual household. She hopes this book brings joy, rhythm, and connection to families around the world.

Our Story

Like many bilingual families, bedtime in our house means reading in two (or three) languages. We love books in German, English, and Spanish — but one of us is always improvising. And lately, our oldest daughter has started insisting:
“Read it the same way again!” She wants to remember the words. She wants to learn them.

For us, it’s also about staying connected to our roots. Our kids’ grandparents — on both sides — don’t speak English. It’s deeply important to us that our daughters can speak with them, not just about them. That’s what this book is really about: love, language, and little everyday rituals that carry meaning.

This book is for our daughters. For us. For anyone raising multilingual kids with love and laughter. It’s our little sunrise ritual — and now, I hope it can be yours, too.
