About the Author

Iris is a mom of a baby and a toddler, and along with her husband, she’s raising her children trilingually in English, German, and Spanish. Raising multilingual kids has been a journey full of joy, challenges, and the desire to keep her family’s roots alive through language.

As a professional user experience designer, Iris combines her expertise in creating meaningful, user-centered products with her love for storytelling. She channels this passion into creating books and services that support early childhood language development in a way that feels natural and joyful.

Laugh Dear Sun is a reflection of Iris’s own family traditions, born from her desire to share the beauty of multilingual learning with others.

Our Family Story

Finding quality multilingual books for young children, especially in German-English, is surprisingly difficult. Books that are engaging, age-appropriate, and bilingual are rare, especially for kids in the early stages of language learning. In our family, this often meant improvising, using whatever we could find, and filling in the gaps as best we could. Recently, our oldest daughter has started telling us which language she wants to hear the story in. She’s eager to learn and wants to make sure she’s hearing the words in both languages.

For us, raising multilingual children is about more than just teaching them a language — it’s about preserving our connection to family and culture. Our kids’ grandparents don’t speak English, so it’s important to us that our daughters can communicate with them, not just talk about them. Laugh Dear Sun was born out of this need for a bilingual book that is both accessible and meaningful, a story we could share together every day.

This book is for our daughters, for us, and for any family raising multilingual kids. It’s our little ritual, and we hope it can be yours too.
